Beansquare Extraordinaire encapsulates the products and ideas of Jodie Franklin, a Reading based artist and graduate of Nottingham Trent School of Art and Design. She combines anodised aluminium and veneered plywood to make wall plaques and jewellery pieces, which take a graphic approach based on her bold illustrations.
A love of both design history and her native south inspires motifs from leafy suburban imagery and the excitement of English travel and tourism, past and present, culminating in a nostalgic look at our heritage. The visual interplay between architecture and foliage, the urban and the rural, results in striking patterns and compositions. The hues of vintage greens and blues help to create a strong and personal identity.
She uses hand pierced details together with laser technology for an attractive contrast, which is enhanced by the textural combination of warm veneer and smooth metal. Every piece is a visual delight.
